Zombie's History With PETA, Halloween And His PETA Thanksgiving Message For 2011
Written by ZombieFAQ

[ZombieFAQ editor: Before we get to the story of Rob's involvement with PETA and Thanksgiving this year, we here at ZombieFAQ want to give you some background information on the relationship. PETA published the following article online on September 29, 2007:]

Rob Zombie Does Not Eat Flesh

Rob_Zombie.jpg
If you've been following Rob Zombie's career, you'll know that he's been successful in a number of different arenas, from his groundbreaking work with White Zombie in the '90s, when this blogger was a young alternative-music junkie ("More human than hu-man! More human than hu-man!") to his successful solo career, and more recently in his mega-hit slasher films House of 1,000 Corpses and Halloween. A lot of people who have watched the gore-fest that is this summer's Halloween get more squeamish when the young Michael Myers mutilates animals than they do when the killer graduates to human victims. Well, it so happens that this touches on one of PETA's major campaigns—to raise awareness about the well-documented link between cruelty to animals and crimes against humans.

With that in mind, PETA VP Dan Mathews wrote the following note to Mr. Zombie:

“We at PETA would like to thank you for making clear in Halloween that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals are likely to move on to humans. Although audiences wince during scenes showing the young Michael Myers mutilating animals, following it up with the school counselor articulating how this is the first step to becoming a maniac was perfectly done. Hopefully, with the attention focused by your movie on this link between animal cruelty and human violence, more people will recognize the warning signs among people they know and deal with it more forcefully.”

Not only was the cat used in this scene fake (of course), but guess what? Rob Zombie is an ethical vegetarian, and has been since 1982, when he saw slaughterhouse footage in high school. Turns out that some zombies don't eat flesh at all. Who knew?

[ZombieFAQ editor: Rob continues his campaign against killing animals for food right up to the present by recording a message for the PETA Thanksgiving hotline. Kinda odd, given that Rob thinks that it is OK to sport many a wool hat while sheep run around naked on a farm somewhere. And, hey Rob ... those leather pants ... that cow over there wants his skin back. Thanks! Now, fast forward to today and the news release below - compliments of shocktilyoudrop.com]

Rob Zombie Passes Along a Message On PETA's Thanksgiving Hotline

PETA reached out to Shock today to let us know that Rob Zombie, director of the upcoming The Lords of Salem, contributed a special Thanksgiving message. Zombie has been a big supporter of PETA for many years. I'm re-posting what the PETA rep shared with me, to give you a better idea of what Zombie is doing.

Calling the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line and listening to tips about how to boil, broil, roast, and toast the bodies of gentle, smart, and social birds sounds more like the plot of an upcoming horror film than a cooking resource. So PETA teamed up with musician, horror-movie legend, and creator of the soon-to-be-released The Lords of Salem and Halloween III Rob Zombie to record its 2011 holiday hotline message.

PETA's holiday hotline encourages people to make the holiday season one of compassion by refusing to eat tortured birds. Our hotline encourages callers to visit GoVeg.com for tips on preparing vegan meals that are sure to be crowd-pleasers.

Interesting that the press release states he's the "creator" of the upcoming Halloween III. (Probably nothing worth getting worked up over, after all, he is the vision behind the recent series and the third film is rumored to take place immediately after his Halloween II. It certainly doesn't imply he's back for the next film.)

[ZombieFAQ editor: So, since we believe in equal time here at ZombieFAQ in the spirit of being fair and balanced, we would like to pass along our own helpful, inciteful and FUCKING DELICIOUS public service announcement - seen below. Enjoy!]
